And here I am, with my current desktop as dated above. I'm now running my laptop under an overclocked condition, as indicated by the two windows open above.

My current laptop is an Acer Aspire 4520 with 1.5GB DDR2 RAM after a pre-upgrade (in other words before I was handed over the laptop from my parents), and 120GB HDD running an AMD Turion 64x2 TL-58.

Original CPU clock speed is 1.9GHz, I overclocked it for a bit and pushed it up to as what you can see in this screenshot. Graphics card stock specifications were real sad; and that's as far as it can go without any crashes. Temperatures were not too cool though, running at 54 degrees Celsius (or 129 degrees Fahrenheit) on average and then rising up to 78 degrees Celsius (172 degrees Fahrenheit) on full load during a CPU stress test. But then again I got to remind myself that I am running a laptop and not a desktop with a decent cooling system. I bet ~sharif-strike's PC can go up to better results, and I'm dying to test his PC. XD

Oh yeah I used NVidia's NTune for the overclocking. XP

Anyways, here I go, just to tell that me (who's owning this laptop) is still alive and sound. Just that I didn't seem to be able to find time to CG, though.

P/S: Note that the amount of the graphic RAM depends on the amount of the laptop's RAM I allocated for it, and the screenshot shows that I allocated an amount of 128MB RAM for it.

172 Fahrenheit is cool for my laptop, under full stress it hits 201 degrees....it's at stock speeds too :(

Whoa, that's hot. 201... probably needs more than the cooling pad to make it decent. :(

I wish Windows XP had a utility to limit the max cpu freq. like Vista has.

But I had to take Performance and compatability over looks and sluggishness so I upgraded/downgraded to/from XP from Vista (Home Prem.) :)

I think if the fan was a little better it would probably run a few degrees cooler...it's too quiet :(

Vista had such a utility??? Wow. But probably its function is still limited unlike product-specific programs such as NVIDIA's NTune and AMD's Overdrive.

Last night I remembered I *could* cap the cpu speeds in XP. Nvidia Control Panel :D

Its underclocked to about 600Mhz below its stock speed...so max at 1.4ghz rather than 2. Still gets hot but its bearable now :)

Sometimes the best way to cool down the CPU is to downclock it. Combo that with a decent cooling system sometimes you can go insane looking at your own attempts - very, very cool indeed. :meditation:

Oh yea, Vista's was under the power management settings. It was really easy to set the speeds. It was really cool, like I could stress the CPU as much as I wanted and it would never go past my 800Mhz limit on battery, but it would feel free to hit 2Ghz when it was plugged in, as that's what it was instructed to do with my settings
